Probation and parole flow (presentation). Probation and parole flow (presentation)
If you're anything like me, you've probably found yourself flicking through the telly late at night, wondering when on earth Seth Meyers is actually on. I've lost count of the number of times I've set a reminder only to tune in at the wrong hour entirely. After a bit of digging (and a few false starts), I've finally got the schedule sussed, so let me save you the bother.
Over in the States, Late Night with Seth Meyers airs on NBC weeknights at 12:37 a.m. Eastern Time. Yes, that oddly specific time is right — American late-night telly has always run on strange clocks, thanks to the local news that comes on before it. For us here in Ireland, that translates to roughly 5:37 a.m. Irish time, which is hardly prime viewing unless you're up with a newborn or mad enough to pull an all-nighter. The good news is that most of us catch it differently: clips and full segments land on YouTube the following morning, and episodes often pop up on Sky Comedy and streaming platforms within a day or so. My own routine is a strong cup of tea and the previous night's "A Closer Look" over breakfast — grand altogether.
One thing I genuinely love about Seth's show is that it's not all gags. His "A Closer Look" segments regularly dig into heavy topics — criminal justice reform, the parole system, the struggles facing probation officers, and the reforms being debated in Washington. I remember stumbling down a rabbit hole one evening after a monologue joke about prison reform ended with me reading slides and articles about how probation and parole actually work. It struck me that late-night hosts like Meyers have become a proper gateway to serious journalism for people who'd never pick up a policy paper. He manages to make a topic like sentencing reform genuinely engaging, and I've learned more from those ten-minute rants than from plenty of news bulletins.
So there you have it. If you're in America, set your telly for 12:37 a.m. on NBC, weeknights. If you're like me on this side of the Atlantic, your best bet is catching the highlights online the next morning. Either way, Seth Meyers is well worth the small bit of effort — just maybe don't do what I did the first time and stay up until half five waiting for it to start. Learn from my mistakes, and enjoy the show.
